For those of you new to AZ, it’s our favorite time of year around here. The lawns are getting manicured, fields groomed and the buzz all around town is- who is the team to watch? What does the Cactus League have in store for us this year and will we see the Dodgers make another run at the World Series?

Let’s start there. Fifteen (15) teams call the Cactus League Home in the Spring:

  • Arizona Diamondbacks
  • Chicago Cubs
  • Chicago White Sox
  • Cincinnati Reds
  • Cleveland Indians
  • Colorado Rockies
  • Kansas City Royals
  • Los Angeles Angels
  • Los Angeles Dodgers
  • Milwaukee Brewers
  • Oakland Athletics
  • San Diego Padres
  • San Francisco Giants
  • Seattle Mariners
  • Texas Rangers
Starting today, pitchers and catchers are reporting in for their first day of Spring Training with the full roster reporting for the first workout on the 18th. Games begin shortly after on February 21st and you can take in the action day or night at any of the stadiums around the valley until March 26th. Here is the full schedule. If you want a printable version email me at lindsay@vistagroup.us and I’ll send you one.
Need to Know Info:
Attire: It will be warm for those of you visiting or new to our state and it’s dry! Mornings will be chilly and the afternoons hot so dress in layers. (Granted us locals are still walking around in sweaters and winter coats at 75 degree’s)

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Water is essential and you can purchase water outside of the stadium and carry it in with you as long as it is unopened. If you plan on enjoying a few adult beverages and find that it hits you quicker than you expected, Uber and Lyft are both local and can pick you up. Please drink responsibly.

Seating: Lawn Seats are available at many of the stadiums and you can carry in a blanket to sit on. This is a great way for families to watch a game and let the kids run. Several of the stadiums have activities for the kids as well.

Best Eats: The food options are pretty impressive at most of the stadiums, and as a former REHS I have known many of the food truck owners. You will definitely be impressed with the selections, bring your appetite and don’t forget to tip well. Our local favorite is Island Noodles. Check it out and say hello to Hale the owner. Let him know Lindsay sent you!

Snowbirds: You’ve come from -20 windchill and you fell in love and want to make AZ home? We get you (I personally was so happy to leave the snow and make AZ my permanent home nearly 15 years ago). We work with many out of state clients and are experts at managing your relocation (even if it’s for just a few months out of the year). To schedule quick 15 minute buyer consult email vistarealtyphx@gmail.com. We can guide you on investing in a home here in AZ.

Skin Care: The AZ sun can be a bit harsh on our visitors, please make sure you bring sunscreen and don’t worry if you forgot it. Several vendors have mini samples to give a way and you will find sunscreen dispensers on the walls. If you catch a burn and decide to use some of our local Aloe to soothe that burn, please don’t jump out of the car at the first plant you see. Not all aloe vera is created equal. We have a few different looking varieties and they can be sharp. Handle with care. Pro tip: just buy it in the store and leave our local vegetation alone.
This Aloe is prickly along the edges:
This aloe is VERY sharp at the tip and has been known to do some damage to pets eyes. Please keep them away.
Autographs: Bring baseballs, baseball cards, or anything you would like an autograph on and a sharpie. You might be able to catch a player who is willing to sign a few mementos while you are along the fence. But please respect their “job” and don’t distract them if they are in the dugout or on the field. There is specific areas you can go to catch players for autographs. Unsure of how to find it when you get there, ask one of the local vendors. They can tell you where to go.

Hope you have a blast and enjoy your Cactus League experience. I might even see you out there. Unless I’m cheering on my own little leaguer. (See below)
Cheers! XO
